Sweden's First International Scout Jamboree -

SCOUT 2001

Sweden's first International Jamboree was held near Rinkaby from July 28th to August 5th 2001.
It was attended by over 26,700 Scouts and Guides from 44 different countries.

The site was the driest, sandiest, dustiest, WINDIEST campsite I have ever seen! We lived, ate and slept in the constant company of dust, sand, grass and ants (which fortunately didn't bite!) and enjoyed the dubious benefits of all the available portaloos from Sweden, Norway and Denmark! (To be fair, considering the numbers of campers involved, they did pretty well with the toilets, cleaning them out twice and even three times a day, and they certainly weren't anywhere near the worst I've seen!) On the plus side, there was plenty of space to spread out and so much timber that after constructing dining shelters, tables, benches, even showers, etc., some of the Scouts had built the most elaborate gates to their sites (one even featured a bridge over a moat....) They made our gadgets look pretty feeble by comparison!
